NEW TECHNIQUES FOR INCONTINENCE:

Do you leak urine when you cough, laugh, or sneeze?  Losing bladder control can be an embarrassing and frustrating problem.  Our physicians can help evaluate the cause of your symptoms and recommend a variety of treatment options.  Many of the doctors at John A. Haugen Associates are trained in the new popular sling or tape procedures.  These new techniques are performed as a short outpatient procedure and have proven to improve incontinence symptoms in most patients.  Schedule an appointment with one of our doctors to see if one of these new techniques might be an option for you!

ABLATION FOR HEAVY MENSTRUAL BLEEDING:

Many women suffer from heavy periods (called menorrhagia).  These periods may last longer than 7 days, cause fatigue or anemia, soak through tampons every hour, and interfere with a woman’s daily activities.  The physicians at John Haugen Associates offer up to date techniques for this problem as an alternative to hysterectomy. Endometrial ablation is a short, outpatient procedure that destroys the lining of the uterus which results in either lighter periods or even no menstrual flow for a period of time.  Please schedule a consultation with one of our doctors to see if this procedure could help you!

Visit www.novasure.com for information about the technique.

(*Note that this procedure is provided only for women who no longer plan any future pregnancies.)

  HPV (Human Papilloma Virus):

You may have heard about a possible new vaccine available in the future to prevent HPV infection.  HPV is a virus in the genital tracts which has been known to cause abnormal PAP smears in women and has even been associated with cervical cancer.  You may be tested for this virus at the time of your annual PAP smear if you are over 30 years old and meet certain criteria.

A negative HPV test may reduce the number of PAP smear tests you would need to undergo in the next 3 years.

Please speak to your physician about this option at your next annual exam!
